Top 5 Destinations for Rajon Rondo After This Season
Rajon Rondo was once one of the best point guards in the league, both statistically and by opinion. Due to a string of injuries, he has been out of that category. However, there is no doubt that he still has a lot of talent and can be a key starting point guard for any team. He is set to be a free agent at the end of next season and there has been a lot of rumors that Danny Ainge is looking to shop him in the market.
The Boston Celtics are currently in a deep rebuilding process after shipping two future Hall of Famers, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, to the Brooklyn Nets. Danny Ainge is interested in offers for Rajon Rondo, looking for young players and draft picks to fit their current rebuilding team. Due to Rondo’s terrify play as of late, the league has been taking notice. His trade value should be adequate enough to receive what Danny Ainge is searching for. Not only will Rondo bring what a team wants on the court, but he will also attract a ton of fans to the arena to fill seats.
The Sacramento Kings haven’t had good luck with guards in the past few years. It seems like they are lacking talent in that position. Isaiah Thomas has been really good this year, posting numbers that people of his size don’t normally post (mainly because there aren’t a lot of players his size that come in the league). He seems to be a good point guard, but is still very young and has a lot to learn. Adding Rajon Rondo will give him the opportunity to learn from a veteran that knows how to be great in this league. A veteran point guard is something Thomas has never got to experience in his time in the NBA, so it will benefit him.
Adding Rajon Rondo will also benefit the team as a whole. Rondo may not have the best jumpshot, but he has made a name in this league with his ability to dish the ball. He gets all of his teammates into the game and brings out the best in each player. He works as a great floor general and would be a great fit for both DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay. There’s no doubt he would be a great fit for the Sacramento Kings.
The Charlotte Bobcats will soon become the Charlotte Hornets they used to be. It makes sense to add a star player to headline the Hornets change, something that will only make public relations stronger. For that reason, I will call them the Hornets from here on out. The Hornets currently have Kemba Walker leading the offense. Walker is another young player that has been up and down his career. He has yet to prove to be a reliable option at point. Much like Isaiah Thomas, having a veteran point guard to learn from would only make Walker and the Hornets stronger. Plus, it is a possibility they move Walker to shooting guard and play them side by side.
With Al Jefferson down low, Rajon Rondo will also bring out the best out of an already dominant player. They would compliment each other and prove to be a great duo that will bring excitement to the city. It would be a great site to see for a team and fanbase that hasn’t seen a lot of success through the past years.
Although this is probably the least likely of these five teams, it’s still possible. Kyle Lowry has been terrific for the Raptors this season. He has become an all-star point guard, even though he wasn’t selected during All-Star Weekend, so why fix something that isn’t broken? Simply put, the Toronto Raptors would probably benefit the most with Rondo on their squad.
Being the amazing, accurate passer Rondo is, don’t say Rondo, Derozan and Ross wouldn’t be fun to watch. Including the young big guys they have, Rondo would easily put on a show for all of the Raptors’ fans. Alley-oops would be in abundance and cheers would be a result of it. In a roster full of young players, Rondo would be a great teacher to a team with a lot of potential.
The Lakers have basically had their worst season throughout team history. They need something to help them out of the rebuilding process and get back to their old championship ways. Bringing Rajon Rondo in would bring that spark. The Lakers will finally have a star point guard to compliment Kobe Bryant when he returns. Pau Gasol will have a point guard he could trust to give him the ball where he likes it. Nick Young would be able to focus on scoring. It would be a win-win for the Lakers.
In addition, the new Rondo-Bryant combo would attract some big names to the Lakers. They would be able to bring in some more potential stars to help them win again. Rondo would benefit because he would most likely want to stay in Los Angeles and sign with the team again. Rondo going to the Lakers would probably be a good move for both sides.
Throughout all of this, it would be wrong to not include the Celtics since there is still a possibility of him staying. The only reason Rajon Rondo hasn’t been making headlines as of late is due to his injuries. All of that set aside, he is still the best player they would have to build around. He holds a lot of intelligence and would be a great foundation for a team in the midst of rebuilding. He has done well in Boston, the Celtics love him, Boston fans love him, so if they don’t have to get rid of them, why do it?
I would say Boston is still the best place for Rondo. He has the chance to become the face of the franchise, if he isn’t already. Much like the Lakers, it would be a win-win for Boston.
