Royce White suspended indefinitely by Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets have announced that their first round pick in the 2012 NBA Draft Royce White suspended indefinitely due to “refusing to provide services,” which is an obligation of his in his contract.

The team’s GM Daryl Morey made the announcement on Sunday, and included that Houston will go on with working together alongside Royce White to hopefully come up with a resolution.

What sparked this decision was the fact that Royce White denied his assignment from the Houston Rockets to their D-League affiliate. White’s spent almost the entire NBA season on the Rockets inactive list as both parties try and figure out how to handle his mental health and anxiety disorder.

Rookie Royce White wants to play, does not blame Rockets

Houston Rockets rookie Royce White wants to get on the court as soon as possible to play with the team that drafted him. With that said, until the Rockets and the NBA develop a fair way of dealing with mental health, Royce White claims that the chances of him never being able to live out his dream and play in the league are “extremely high.”

However, White admittedly doesn’t cast blame on Houston for the situation he and the team are both currently in, which has kept the first round draft pick from playing thus far this NBA season.

Royce White spoke about the unfortunate scenario in a radio interview and said,

“The reality is that it is not Houston’s fault. As much as we always want to try and blame one side or the other, they’ve been thrown into a position now where they’re forced to make things up as they go because a protocol has not been put in place for mental health up until this point.”

Houston Rockets forward Royce White rejected the assignment he received to his team’s D-League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, on Sunday. This is seen as another hindrance to White’s return to the basketball court for the Houston Rockets.

Royce White, who was the 16th overall pick in this past June’s NBA draft, has been on the Houston Rockets inactive list for most of the NBA season while he and his team try and figure out how to deal with his mental health and anxiety disorder.

The rookie’s assignment to the D-League, which was issued to him on Saturday, was supposed to be a positive step to getting him back on the basketball court. However, White released a statement on Sunday which stated that he would not be reporting to the team.
