The NBA announced Wednesday afternoon that New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony suspended for one game without pay because of his confrontations with Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett in the tunnel to the arena, outside the team’s locker room and outside the team’s bus in the garage after Monday night’s game at Madison Square Garden.

Anthony must serve his suspension Thursday night when the New York Knicks face the Indiana Pacers.

Stu Jackson, NBA executive VP of basketball operations released a statement following the announcement that said,

“There are no circumstances in which it is acceptable for a player to confront an opponent after a game. Carmelo Anthony attempted to engage with Kevin Garnett multiple times after Monday’s game and therefore a suspension was warranted.”

The Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett fight, which took place after the Boston Celtics beat the New York Knicks by the score of 102-96 Monday night at Madison Square Garden, almost got ugly and required New York City police officers and building security to be present so they could defuse the incident, according to multiple sources.

According to the police report, Garnett and Anthony nearly came to blows. It all started when Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett confronted each other during the fourth quarter of the game, resulting in both players receiving technical fouls.

But it did not end there. Carmelo was clearly still upset, and after the game he exited the court through the visiting team’s tunnel instead of using the Knicks exit.

It looked like New York Knicks Tyson Chandler tried to stop and calm Anthony down, but Melo was determined and blew right by the team’s center. According to witnesses, Carmelo Anthony went up to the the Boston locker room and was shouting.

According to sources, Melo then approached KG near Boston’s team bus. The police and Madison Square Garden security intervened.

The video posted below by Fantasy Basketball Money Leagues shows Anthony waiting for Garnett near the Celtics team bus as Knicks head coach Mike Woodson looked to be attempting to calm his star player down. Building and Team security along with police officers were also present.

This could result in suspensions and/or fines for both Kevin Garnett and Carmelo Anthony.
