Best Fits for a potential Rajon Rondo trade
The speculation about a potential trade for Rajon Rondo has been looming over Boston for years. Even prior to the initiation of the rebuilding process, the Celtics seemed like they were thinking about trading their superstar point guard. At the moment, it still remains a mystery whether the C’s want to trade him or not. But if they decide to, one of the following scenarios would work for them best.
A trade with the Charlotte Bobcats would make sense. The C’s would receive Kemba Walker and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Ben Gordon could be added to the deal and the Boston Celtics would give away also Gerald Wallace, along with Rondo. This would mean that Boston would acquire two young assets, perhaps even a draft pick. Gordon has an expiring contract. For Charlotte, this could be a huge upgrade, as Rajon Rondo could form a strong duo with Al Jefferson.
The Utah Jazz is another team the Celtics could consider trading with. In that case, Trey Burke, Gordon Hayward and Rudy Gobert could be the assets Utah would have to give away along with a first round draft pick. Hayward and Brad Stevens have history together and Trey Burke is considered as a young, rising star. Rudy Gobert would just sweeten the pot, as the C’s could also give away Kelly Olynyk. For Utah, this would be a good deal, as they have some young assets in their frontcourt, which could blend well with Rondo and take the team to the next level in the near future.
The C’s could also deal Rondo with the Orlando Magic. If that was the case, Moe Harkless, Jameer Nelson and a first-rounder would be the assets Orlando would throw on the table in exchange for Rondo. Orlando’s first-round pick in the loaded 2014 draft could be a top-five pick. This deal would work towards the Celtics’ target for the future and a drastic rebuild. The Magic on the other hand, do have young talent and they would be more than happy to place Rondo alongside Victor Oladipo in their backcourt.
The Milwaukee Bucks are yet another team that could deal with the Celtics. The Bucks could give away Caron Butler, Brandon Knight and a first-round pick in the 2014 draft. Another very tempting deal for the C’s, as the Bucks are going full throttle to finish last in the East this season. This draft pick could be the No.1 of the 2014 draft. With Larry Sanders, Giannis Antetokounmpo and John Henson onboard, the addition of a star like Rondo would work well for Milwaukee.
Finally, the Houston Rockets could deal Omer Asik to Boston in exchange for Rajon Rondo. Jeremy Lin could also be a part of the deal and perhaps even Chandler Parsons. The C’s would send Courtney Lee and Kelly Olynyk to Houston as a part of the deal. It’s clear that Houston wants to trade Asik. The only issue in this case is the high contracts Lin and Asik have for next season, $14.9 million each.
